First Night Columbia UPDATE!!
New Year’s Eve Celebration
Columbia, MO – The outdoor activities to include the processions and the fireworks displays at 9:30 and midnight have been canceled due to the weather. All indoor activities and entertainment will be held. The midnight finale will be at the Missouri Theater beginning at 11:30 pm.
For our first time visitors, First Night® Columbia is a festival that occurs on New Year’s Eve throughout 12 venues in The District, downtown Columbia, MO. The event kicks off with a nationally certified 5K Run/Walk at 4:00 in front of Cyclextreme. The Children’s Art Area opens at 6:30 p.m. at the Calvary Episcopal Church and all of the performance venues open at 7:00. There is a children’s procession and finale with fireworks at 9:15 starting at the City Building. The Grand Finale and Procession starts in front of the Missouri Theatre at 11:30 and processes to the Courthouse Square with fireworks at midnight!
The entertainment theme for First Night® Columbia 2013 is “IT’S ALL ABOUT THE GUITAR!!” The language and skill of the guitar is universal as it connects multiple cultures, genres and generations. This year, First Night will feature local and national guitar power players from a wide variety of styles. One of our special features will be national touring artists, Davis, Miller, May, Acoustic Americana trio, featuring Flatpick Guitar with Gretchen Priest-May on fiddle. NEW THIS YEAR! Acoustic Instrument Workshop on New Year’s Day-
Start your new year off with goals of taking your music skills to that next level of expertise! Davis, Miller, May will host a 3 hour workshop the afternoon of January 1st, 2013 “Improvisation on all Acoustic Instruments”…all skill levels welcome! All proceeds will go to First Night Columbia. EARLY BUTTON SALES BEGIN DECEMBER 1ST!
Our Early Button Buyers’ Drawing is back this year with even more prizes! Buy your buttons before 4:00 on Monday, December 31st for $8 and enter your name in a drawing for a Bristol acoustic guitar from the Guitar Finder, Cajon Box Drum from Barnhouse’s Crazy Music Store, a subscription to the national publication-Flatpick Guitar Magazine, dinner for two from Bleu Restaurant and Wine Bar or music lessons from the Columbia Academy of Music! You can enter your name for every button purchased…at all Gerbes locations, Streetside Records, the ARC and downtown Parks and Rec. Winners announced at the Grande Finale! $10 at the door …Children 7 & under are Free!! Buttons get you into all venues!

David Casas, Magician, will be replacing Keith Jozef this year. We will miss Keith and look forward to his return to First Night but in the meanwhile, get ready for the amazing David Casas! For more info on David, go to our Performers Page.

Como Derby Dames will skate and lead the People’s Procession down 9th Street …and you don’t want to miss the Grand Finale on the Courthouse Square starting at 11:30 with guitar guru, Tom Williams of La Movida, performing the national anthem, Jimi Hendrix style, in honor of our “It’s All About the Guitar” theme.
